Senior Chinese legislator visits Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Xiao Jie, vice chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, led an NPC delegation on a visit to Nepal from May 14 to 17.

During the visit, Xiao met separately with Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire, Chairman of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Rana.

Xiao said China-Nepal relations have maintained high-level development under the strategic guidance of the two countries' leaders. China is willing to work with Nepal to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning between legislative bodies, and promote the continuous in-depth development of China-Nepal strategic cooperative partnership and practical cooperation in various fields.

Xiao also briefed Nepali officials on the outcomes of the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee and the third session of the 14th NPC, and on recent political and economic developments in China.

The Nepali officials reaffirmed their firm adherence to the one-China principle and determination not to allow any force to use Nepalese territory to engage in anti-China activities.

They also voiced readiness to strengthen high-level exchanges and legislative exchanges between the two sides, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and push Nepal-China relations to a new level.

Xiao delivered a speech at the Sagarmatha Sambaad, or Sagarmatha Dialogue, expressing China's willingness to uphold the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and work with all parties to address climate change.
